The University of Dundee was established by Royal Charter on 1 August 1967. The creation of the University was due to increasing political pressures to admit more students to higher education. Under these pressures it became untenable for Queens College, Dundee to continue as it was, as a college of the University of St Andrews. The pathological drawings around which this collection is based were discovered in Dundee University in the early 1990's. All 63 original watercolours feature the signature of Neil Stewart [the artist] and feature commentary by William Tennant Gairdner. The majority of the watercolours are dated between 1848 and 1855.
